Research is the process of gathering information and data to inform design decisions.

Beginner competence definition

Individuals at a beginner level of competence are able to gather basic information through online sources and secondary research. They are familiar with common research methodologies (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups), and have a basic understanding of how to analyze and research findings.

Intermediate competence definition

Intermediate individuals are skilled in conducting primary research, including user testing and interviews. They can critically evaluate research sources and apply research findings to design decisions. In our experience, they also possess an understanding of how to use research to inform and validate design concepts.

Advanced competence definition

Advanced-level-professionals are experts in conducting and analyzing research in multiple domains and contexts. They are skilled at developing and implementing complex research plans and are able to design and conduct research studies that generate new knowledge and insights.
