Digital fluency is the capability of individuals to use digital technologies, tools, and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve business objectives. It involves a deeper understanding and mastery of digital technologies than digital literacy, including the ability to use more complex digital tools and resources, as well as an understanding of how to integrate digital technologies with business processes and strategies.

Beginner competence definition

At a beginner level, professionals are able to perform basic tasks such as understanding the digital landscape, using common digital tools and resources, and communicating effectively using digital channels. They also have a basic understanding of digital security and privacy issues.

Intermediate competence definition

At an intermediate level, individuals have a deeper understanding of digital technologies and tools. They can use advanced digital tools and resources such as data analytics and automation software, and have a basic understanding of programming and coding. They should also be able to integrate digital technologies with business processes and strategies, and have a basic understanding of digital marketing and social media management.

Advanced competence definition

Advanced-level professionals have an expert-level understanding of digital technologies and tools. They can develop and implement complex digital strategies, manage and optimize digital campaigns, and have a deep understanding of programming and coding. They’re able to analyze complex digital data and provide insights to drive business decisions, have a deep understanding of digital security and privacy issues, and can develop and implement effective digital security policies and practices. In our experience, we’ve found that they should have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to lead teams of digital professionals to achieve business objectives related to digital fluency. They should also be knowledgeable about digital industry trends and be able to recommend new technologies and services that can improve business operations.
