Stakeholder management is the ability to identify, analyze, and engage with individuals or groups who have a vested interest or impact on the success of the organization. This capability includes understanding the needs and expectations of stakeholders, communicating with them effectively, and managing relationships to achieve mutual benefits. It also involves being able to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence stakeholders to support the organization’s goals.

Beginner competence definition

Beginner-level individuals understand the basic principles of stakeholder management and the company’s policies and programs related to engaging with stakeholders. They are also able to identify key stakeholders, understand their needs and expectations, and communicate effectively with them using established communication channels.

Intermediate competence definition

Intermediate-level individuals have a deeper understanding of stakeholder needs and expectations and the ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively. They can develop stakeholder engagement plans, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and influence stakeholders to support the organization’s goals. They are also able to coach others on stakeholder management strategies and policies.

Advanced competence definition

Advanced-level individuals have a comprehensive understanding of stakeholder needs and expectations and its application in complex, global organizations. They are able to design and implement stakeholder management programs that align with the company’s overall business goals and values, identify and analyze stakeholder interests and expectations, and develop and implement strategies that achieve mutual benefits. They can also use advanced techniques such as stakeholder mapping, social listening, and sentiment analysis to inform stakeholder engagement and communication strategies. In our experience, advanced professionals have strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve stakeholder management goals and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
