Problem-solving is the ability to identify and address challenges or obstacles in a logical and effective manner. This includes defining the problem, gathering and analyzing information, generating and evaluating potential solutions, and implementing a chosen solution. It involves critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication and collaboration skills.

Beginner competence definition

Beginner-level individuals are able to identify and define basic problems within a business context. They may have a limited understanding of the root cause of the problem and may rely on basic problem-solving techniques such as brainstorming or trial and error. They may also struggle to develop and implement effective solutions without guidance or support.

Intermediate competence definition

Individuals at an intermediate level have a deeper understanding of problem-solving techniques and can apply them effectively in a business context. They can identify and analyze the root cause of problems and develop and implement effective solutions. They may also be able to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with their solutions, but they may still require guidance or support in more complex or unfamiliar situations.

Advanced competence definition

Advanced-level individuals are able to effectively identify, analyze, and solve complex business problems with minimal guidance or support. They’re able to apply advanced problem-solving techniques and have a deep understanding of the root cause of problems. They can think creatively and critically to develop innovative solutions and can anticipate and mitigate potential risks associated with their solutions. They can effectively lead and mentor others in problem-solving.
